    Planning for the Future

Waynesville, the county seat of Pulaski County, is nestled along historic Route 66. Waynesville honors "Mad" Anthony Wayne, a Revolutionary hero best known for his defeat of the British and control of the Northwest Territory.. Its historic downtown square sits near the banks of the Roubidoux Creek. The square is rich with the city's history, which includes the restored Old Stagecoach Stop, which dates back to the 1800's. The Old Stagecoach Stop also operated as a hotel, Civil War hospital, and dentist offices. Also home to the square is the Old Pulaski County Courthouse Museum.
  There's fun for all ages in Waynesville whether you like to fish for that lunker, scuba dive in the internationally known Roubidoux Spring Cave, swim at the city pool or explore Civil War history.. Take a stoll on the walking trail through Laughlin Park, which runs parallel to Roubidoux Spring, a natural spring and excellent cave diving site. The city's parks offer picnic facilities, barbecue grills, new covered pavilions, a fishing area with handicapped accessible dock, and a baseball field.

The park and square are home to numerous festivals including Old Settler's Day, Frog Fest and Christmas on the Square. Growth can be seen throughout Waynesville, from upscale new subdivisions to Townfield Plaza, the area's newest shopping district. The city recently finalized a joint-use airport agreement with Fort Leonard Wood, opening Forney Airfield to convenient air travel.
